Packing for a walking holiday can be difficult… you don’t want to leave anything important behind but you can’t possibly carry everything! We’ve put together what we think are the top 5 things you should take with you!

Your most comfortable walking boots!

Arguably the worst thing on a walking holiday is that unbearable rubbing pain and the horrendous blisters that you get if your brand-new fancy walking boots aren’t so great after all. Make sure to take a pair of trusty boots that you know will be comfortable to wear for the whole break.

A personal first-aid kit

Obviously, we hope you won’t have any accidents or injuries on your trip, but never be caught short without a basic first aid kit. A first-aid kit is pretty much essential – plasters for blisters or grazes, painkillers for headaches or muscle aches, bandages, sun-cream, and insect repellent are all massively handy to take along.

A waterproof jacket

If you’re walking in the UK, it’s almost certain you will need a raincoat, let’s face it… And even if you’re travelling further afield, there is a good chance you’ll get caught in the rain at some point.

A refillable water bottle

This may seem obvious, but it’s one of the most important things to take. Imagine, you’re out in the hot sun and you finished your water bottle hours ago, but there is no Evian for sale for miles but you’ve found a tap… at this point your refillable bottle will be your best friend. If you are not quite sure about the water supply, there are always handy little water filter straws that allow you to turn dirty water into drinkable water in seconds.

Plastic bags

Plastic bags have a surprising number of uses on a walking holiday, keeping possessions dry, saving space in the suitcase, carrying small possessions and many more. It’s always useful to have a few packed away in your coat pocket too!
