Itinerary

Experience a very pleasant Cotswold country walk with fine views over luscious rolling countryside, to the hilltop village of Cold Aston with the sheltered valley setting of Naunton.

You will pass the sparkling River Windrush in several places where you will discover wild watercress, which is a sign of pure clear water.

Finish the walk by following the beautiful river valley back to Bourton, one of the most picturesque village in the Cotswolds.

Wander along several ancient bridleways and capture a glimpse of the lovely old villages of Great and Little Rissington. Visit over 140 acres of ancient water meadows that were originally created around 1844.

These are very fertile areas and the warming waters promote plenty of fresh new grass for animal feeding.

Wading birds such as curlews, redshank and snipe can sometimes be seen, as can an abundance of dragonflies and other fascinating water species.

Walk over typical Cotswold land and cross the rivers Dikler and Eye before visiting the pretty Cotswold villages of Upper and Lower Slaughter.

Although the name ‘Slaughter’ sounds rather harsh, it actually originates from the from the Olde English for slough meaning marshy ground.

The village is among the most picturesque with its little bridges, cottages and humble water mill.
